Feeling Stuck in a rut?

What’s Stopping you getting unstuck?

I’ve noticed, lately, that a lot of people are feeling stuck in their lives. The world has changed, since the pandemic, and people are beginning to wonder if there is more to life than just eating, sleeping and working…

There seems to be a restlessness in the air, at the moment. Have you felt it, too?

It starts off with feeling a bit bored and fed up with the daily grind and, if you continue like this, you might even start to become depressed. Maybe you’ve tried to shake things up by taking a holiday, but this only highlights how bored you are with your current routines, when you get back  home, causing you to feel even more depressed! Although depression is a clinical illness ,only to be diagnosed by a medical professional, the type of depression I am talking about is that feeling of sadness and wondering if the best years of your life are over. It’s feeling stuck ,like you know you need to do something to change your life but you don’t know how to do it. Or, maybe you do know what you need to do but something is stopping you doing it

The Perils of Procrastination

If you know things need to change but you’re not doing what you know you need to do, then there must be something going on deep down. Procrastination is a form of self-sabotage. It can hold you back from getting the happier life you really want by making you think that there are better things to do with your time, so you put off what you know needs to be done to improve your situation,

Can you see the irony?

Why you stay stuck in the comfort zone?

It isn’t just procrastination that can stop you living your dreams, the ‘comfort zone’ is another way you can stay stuck in a situation that isn’t good for you. As spiritual beings in a human body, we are here to grow and if you are choosing to stay in your comfort zone – because it is a choice  – then you are not growing. This is why, eventually, you will start to feel that pull towards something else and you’ll start to feel stuck.

If you don’t listen to these inner nudges to make changes, you may be forced to change and grow, some other way. Tarot card readers call this the ‘tower moment’. This happened to me in a previous job. I stayed in it a lot longer than I should have because, at first, I was comfortable, but gradually I started to feel bored and stuck and the longer I stayed, the more bored and lethargic I became and the less energy I had to do the things I really wanted to do, which was train as a hypnotherapist. I was there for another year and a half before there was a big change that happened, which meant I had to look for another job, This was the best thing that could have happened to me, but it took this tower moment to get me out of the situation that wasn’t meant for me.

So how do I get unstuck?

In an ideal situation, you should avoid a tower moment and start to think about what it is that you would really enjoy doing. What is that one thing that you would do even if you didn’t get paid for it? If you do know what it is you need to do, then break this down into achievable steps and schedule them in your diary so you make time to get them done. There’s nothing better than doing what you want to do and love to do, is there? Sometimes, there are things we don’t want to do that we may have to do in order to achieve a better lifestyle but if you know that these tasks will lead to a happier life for you, then focus on that.

If you feel there is still something stopping you, it may be a subconscious block that is preventing you from making positive changes. This might sound stupid, but your subconscious mind only wants to protect you and that can mean stopping you having a happier life if it thinks that you may get hurt. One example of this is a fear of success. My clients always laugh at me when I tell them this, but sometimes there are fears linked to being too successful, such as ‘ if I’m too successful, I will lose all my friends’ or ‘If I’m more successful then I will be too busy to spend time with my family’. You might not be consciously aware of these fears, but that doesn’t mean they are not there.

You can do some journaling around what are the best things that can happen if you achieve your goals and what are the worst things that can happen. This can help you identify some possible blocks.

If you want to truly go for it this year, though, then hypnotherapy or intuitive coaching may help skyrocket your success as, not only will it reveal the ‘real’ reason(s) why you’re stuck where you are and not moving forward with your dreams, but it will remove this block and reprogram your mind with more positive suggestions so you can move forwards with confidence.
