Happy 2023 – Set Intentions not Goals

Happy New Year everyone!

I love the start of a New Year, which is full of posibilities, like a blank canvas waiting for us to paint it in lovely colours.

Usually, at this time of year, I would be writing out my list of New Year’s Resolutions – exercise more, eat less, travel more and so on, but this year I have decided to do what the Universe wants us to do and just chill!

I have no plans, no goals, nothing I need to give up and nothing I need to achieve – did you notice the word ‘need’ here? There are things I would like to achieve this year but I don’t need to achieve them and this is where the energy is different.

So, you can do the same as me, or if this attitude is a bit too relaxed, for you, then why not set an intention rather than a goal.

What is the difference between intentions and goals?

Goals are usually things we want to achieve that we think we might struggle to achieve. We can make them SMART goals, which I find too restrictive and these two words make me think of large strict corporations and so it is off-putting for me!

Intentions, on the other hand, are just what you think they are – they are statements that you make which have a different energy.

The energy of goals is all about striving for something. They involve effort and monitoring and a lot of beating yourself up if you don’t achieve them; whereas, intentions have a softer energy. They also have a stronger, more confident energy about them. You state you are going to do something and then you forget about it. Once you have declared you are doing it, then it has to happen. I much prefer this type of action rather than the more stressful action of setting goals.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope this year is a great one for you all.

Blessings,
